FTimes – STT Report, Aug 25

Former mayor of Vantaa City Jukka Peltomäki has been accused in court of taking bribe and violation of his official duties.

The prosecutor on Wednesday called for Peltomäki to be imprisoned.

The prosecutor did not, as yet, want to specify how long a prison sentence would be warranted.

According to the prosecutor, Peltomäki received various benefits and money from Leila Tuominen, the owner and managing director of the architect firm Forma-Futura.

The prosecutor also demanded imprisonment of Tuominen for, among other things, aggravated bribery.

According to the accusations, Tuominen had rented apartments for Forma-Futura and FF-Sijoitus Oy below the market price.

Tuominen is also accused of giving a working capital worth 80,000 euros to a company owned by Peltomäki and related parties and also offered trips abroad.

According to the prosecutor, Peltomäki and his inner circle received bribes of an estimated amount of 200,000 euros.

These advantages are at the heart of the trial, because Forma-Futura received a lot of design work in Vantaa.

Both the accused, Peltomäki and Tuominen, however, denied all the charges brought against them.

The preliminary hearing was held on Wednesday at the Helsinki District Court. The court also decided the trial schedule of the case. The main hearing will take place later, during autumn.
