FTimes – STT Report, Aug 25

Investigations of aggravated drug crimes may be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (NBI), reported the Finnish commercial broadcaster MTV.

According to MTV, a number of senior police officers will converge on Thursday and possibly make a presentation on how drug investigation is to be organised.

Helsinki Police Department Deputy Chief Ilkka Koskimäki confirmed to the news agency STT that police chiefs will meet on Thursday to discuss enhancement of drug crime investigation in the capital city region.

Police Commissioner al Seppo Kolehmainen’s working group has been working on the issue since spring, Koskimäki said.

According to Koskimäki, there are various alternatives to the reorganisation of drug investigation; however, Koskimäki said transfer of aggravated drug investigation to NBI is just one of the options. “It is an impossible idea that investigations of aggravated drug crimes would be transferred,” he said.
