The public support for the main opposition Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) has continued to rise and it is not far behind the ruling Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party), according to the latest survey commissioned by the national broadcaster Yle.

This time the SDP received support from 20 per cent of the respondents, only 0.7 per cent less than what the country’s most popular party, the Keskusta, garnered.

The percentage of support for another component of the three-party ruling coalition, the Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party), stands at 17.7, while that of the Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party), the third component of the government, has slightly advanced to 8.4 per cent.

However, the Green League (Vihreä liitto) with a support base of 13.6 per cent and the Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) with that of 9.3 per cent are both ahead of the Finns Party.

Taloustutkimus interviewed approximately 2,400 people under the survey. The margin of error is 1.6 per cent in respect to the major political parties.
