Sun, 11 Sep, 2016 10:23:01 PM FTimes-STT Report, Sep 11 The Minister of Transport and Communication, Anne Berner, File Photo Lehtikuva. The Minister of Transport and Communication, Anne Berner played a key role last year in ensuring actions were not raised against the former leadership of national airport operator Finavia in the derivative mess.
The matter became evident after news agency STT got hold of email messages in which the Permanent Secretary Harri Pursiainen had sent the chair of the then Finavia board Riitta Tiuraniemi.
"At the behest of the Ministry I inform that Finavia should hold an extraordinary general meeting around mid-November. Before that, the company (Finavia) should not proceed with derivative action matter," said the message from Pursiainen to the then Finavia board chair Tiuraniemi.
The message which has now become public opens up the role of Berner.
The public were previously told that the Ministry had barred taking of action.
Berner stands by her position that it was the Finavia board which prevented action from being taken. The objective, according to Berner, was not to launch the process too early.
The general meeting promised by Berner was, however, not arranged thus the formal decision on raising the actions remained with the Finavia board.
Finavia incurred derivative losses of 34 million euros in the years 2009-2011.
