The figure rose to 69.2 percent in the EU, but did not yet reach its 2008 peak of 70.3 percent. In 2014, the employment rates stood at 75.0 percent for men and at 63.5 percent for women aged 20-64 in the EU. The Europe 2020 strategy target is to reach a total employment rate of people aged 20 to 64 of at least 75 percent in the EU by 2020. It also showed that the figure of persons aged 55 to 64 in the EU has grown steadily over the last years, from 38.4 percent in 2002 to 51.8 percent in 2014. The greater participation of older workers is also one of the objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy on employment. Compared with 2013, the employment rate for those aged 20 to 64 increased in 2014 in almost every EU member state, and most strongly in Hungary, Portugal, Croatia and Lithuania. Employment rates above 75 percent were recorded in Sweden, Germany, Britain, the Netherlands and Denmark. More News
