Prime Minister Juha Sipilä on Friday said that the further course of action regarding the social contract will be disclosed on Monday.

Sipilä made the remarks at his official residence Kesäranta while talking to journalists after negotiation talks failed on Thursday.

The government will look for others means to bridge the envisaged 5 percent cut in production costs.

“The premise is that additional cuts and tax increases can be avoided, but as the negotiation shows, it is extremely difficult,” Sipilä said.

The premier pointed out that it could have been much easier to evade additional cuts with the help of the social contract.

The envisaged social contract negotiations between the government and the labour market organisations broke down and now the ball is in the government's court.

Sipilä revealed the ministers' calendars have been freed from everything else giving them time to reflect on other means which would ensure that the government objectives are met.

The premier said the party chairs of the coalition government have already thought about possible means and the ministerial working group will continue with talks with the aid of experts throughout the weekend.

Sipilä, however, refused to divulge details on the possible means mulled. The premier also said he had not devoted time in the thought that the time for tripartite has now ended.
