Fashion designer and clothing industry expert Anniina Nurmi said small operators are more engaged in local productions than larger ones.
According to Nurmi, there is no prospect of a return of large-scale production in the country. On the other hand, the trend seems that manufacturing is moving back to Europe to countries such as Estonia and Turkey from Asia. Finnish textile manufacture Finlayson, for instance, has done so.
“Manufacturing is brought to Europe. Main partners are Latvia, Belgium and Turkey,” said Finlayson CEO Jukka Kurttila.
Kurttilla, however, said the relocation of the entire production back to Finland is not realistic.
“If we try it, we would be in an unfavourable position both with domestic and foreign competitors that we would probably be bankrupt in a few years,” Kurtilla added.
