The Director General of the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK) Jyri Häkämies on Wednesday termed immigration as an opportunity for the country upon the opening of the pro-ject billed ‘From Immigrant to Entrepreneur Tour’ at the Auramo reception centre in Vantaa.
According to Häkämies, the future promises a dearth of labour in many positions, which could be filled through immigration.
The aim of the Immigrant Entrepreneur is to inform immigrants, among other things, how to start a business in Finland.
Häkämies pointed out that not everyone can be an entrepreneur. However, he feels that entrepre-neurship is a good option to offer immigrants.
“But of course it requires that everything related to integration be dealt with,” he said.
This means, according to Häkämies, quick access to residence permits as well as Finnish language education.
He encouraged the reception centre residents to use every opportunity to study Finnish language.
Integration is also the wish of one Auramo reception centre resident, Hakim Ahmadi from Af-ghanistan. He has been in Finland for five months and received a resident permit which is valid until 2020.
Ahmadi considers entrepreneurship one option. However, it is still on the horizon.
“At the moment, my only wish is to learn the Finnish language,” Ahmadi said.
Ahmadi hopes to get private instruction. He believes that after learning the language, he will get work--either as an employee or an entrepreneur.
In Afghanistan, Ahmadi's education was interrupted in secondary school because he had to take care of his siblings.
Ahmadi is interested in construction work or a job as an automotive technician, but the most im-portant thing for him is to find work.
