A two-day auction of cars left behind or handed over to the state by asylum seekers at the Salla border crossing point last winter ended on Saturday on the premises of Salla municipality hall.
The customs authorities earned a total of 23,000 euros from the auction, Customs sources said.
The cheapest of the abandoned cars was sold at 1.00 euro while the most expensive car, a black Volga, was sold at 1,200 euros.
A total of 128 vehicles were sold during the auction on Friday and Saturday.
An entrepreneur from Tornio managed to buy over 20 vehicles for a few euros each.
Furthermore, the bidder received seven vehicles as gifts from other bidders who had dislodged the cars for the spare parts they needed.
