Tue, 18 Oct, 2016 12:04:11 AM FTimes – STT Report, Oct 18  File Photo – Lehtikuva. The national social insurance institution Kela is seeking a model through which the costs of transportation could be combined at the municipal level, reported the Finnish language newspaper consortium Lännen Media.
The search for such a model is motivated by a desire to save and inspired by the “one-stop shop.”
The idea is that the combined transportation would include passenger transport from the beginning to end. School rideshares, however, would only be a minor part of the plan.
For example, transport costs in accordance with the Disability Services Act amounted to 150 million euros in 2014. According to Kela, last year, the transport costs were 292 million euros.
Kela’s leading planner Anne Gliss told the Lännen Media that a contract for such a combined transportation should have been created and implemented a long time ago.
