According to the latest survey by the European Region of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans- and Inter-sex Association (ILGA EUROPE), Finland is now ranked 17th in Europe and is three spots down from last year’s ranking.
The UK took the first spot in this year’s ranking. Other European countries such as Croatia, Portugal, Austria and Malta are all ahead of Finland on the list.
The ILGA EUROPE annual report compares how countries differ in legislation on and treatment of sexual and gender minorities.
According to the association, Finland is lagging behind the rest of Europe on the issues relating to legal gender recognition and singlehood requirements.
In addition, protection against discrimination is seen as inadequate and family rights are not realised equally.
The worst-place countries are Russia and Azerbaijan.
