Traffic in downtown Helsinki came to a standstill on Monday after a fire broke out at a McDonald’s restaurant.
Prompted by an alarm at 11:30 in the morning, rescue and emergency services rushed to the restaurant at Mannerheimintie 16.
Thirteen emergency and rescue service units were dispatched to the scene.
The police cordoned off the lane to the south of Mannerheimintie at the Simonkatu intersection for an hour into the incident. According to the police inspector on duty, the fire did not caused considerable traffic congestion in the city centre.
No one was injured in the fire which originated from electrical wiring in the ceiling of the restaurant building. The customers inside the restaurant were evacuated.
According to the police, there is no indication of arson. The damages caused by the blaze could not be known immediately.
