According to Defence Minister Jussi Niinistö, the quality of conscript training will not drop, even though the military budget has been cut, reported the Finnish language daily Helsingin Sanomat on Saturday.

The report said the army will be forced to cut its operating expenditures due to a significant lack of funding.

The report was based on information gathered from the defence staff.

According to the staff, cuts will affect the quantity of contacts the conscripts have with trained professional soldiers.

Aviation Workers’ Union Chairman Mika Oranen told the newspaper that the quality of military education will inevitably fall over time due to the cuts.

“The training quality was ensured maintaining an average of 2.5 trainers per team. These huge cuts have made this impossible,” Oranen said.

But, according to Niinistö, next year’s budget will ensure 2.5 trainers per team.
