The police on Saturday released the six Iraqi refugees who were arrested from the Kirkkonummi Aavaranta refugee reception centre on December 31, 2015 in the name of public order and secu-rity.

Pre-trial investigation against the refugees, suspected of public incitement will be continued, said Central Criminal Investigation unit of police.

On Thursday, police told reporters that all the arrested came to Finland this year from Iraq.

Senior investigation officer Thomas Elfgren told Finnish new agency STT that the number of suspects has grown from the original six.

“There is talk of at least a few more people. They are also residents of the reception center,” Elfgren said.

The police earlier said that the suspects were not being held for terrorist offenses, but rather for crimes that endangered general public safety.

“I cannot reveal more while the pre-trial investigation is underway, as we haven't heard all the facts,” Elfgren said.
