An eight-year-old boy was killed when a speeding truck ran over him at Vihti on Monday morning.
The accident took place at about 7.00 a.m when the boy was walking along the shoulder of Olkkalantie Road towards the village. The emergency centre was informed of the crash just after 7 a.m. A truck driving in the same direction knocked him down to spot death, the Western Uusimaa police said.
The police still do not know why the truck hit the child. At the accident site, there is no pedestrian or bicycle path; pedestrians walk along the shoulder.
The truck driver, a 50-year-old man, is suspected of causing a traffic hazard and manslaughter.
The police, however, said alcohol was not a factor in this case.
