The number of enterprise openings decreased by 6.6 per cent in the second quarter of 2015 from the respective quarter of the year before, according to Statistics Finland.

 

Examined by industry, enterprise openings were most numerous in trade. Examined by region, the number of enterprise openings and closures was highest in Uusimaa.

 

In the first quarter of 2015, the number of enterprise closures was down by 2.3 per cent on the corresponding quarter of the year before.

 

There were 6,864 enterprise openings in the second quarter of 2015, the data show.

 

Enterprise openings accounted for 2.1 per cent of the total stock of enterprises in the second quarter of 2015.

 

Examined by industry, the number of enterprise openings was highest in trade, where they numbered 1,097, or 16.0 per cent of all enterprise openings in the second quarter of 2015.

 

Enterprise openings numbered 1,050 (15.3%) in professional, scientific and technical activities, and 984 (14.3%) in construction.

 

Examined by region, the number of enterprise openings was highest in the second quarter of 2015 in Uusimaa, where it was 2,537. The number of next highest enterprise openings was in Pirkanmaa (624) and in Varsinais-Suomi (556).

Relative to the enterprise stock, the number of enterprise openings was highest in Åland (2.5%). Compared to the second quarter of 2014, the number of enterprise openings increased most in Åland (20) and decreased most in Uusimaa (-159).

 

Examined by municipality, the highest numbers of enterprise openings were recorded in the second quarter of 2015 in Helsinki (1,321), followed by Espoo (333), Tampere (310), Vantaa (238) and Turku (230), according to the statistics.

 

Compared to the second quarter of 2014, enterprise openings increased most in Lohja (21) and decreased most in Espoo (-42).

 

Examined by legal form, enterprise openings of the form of natural person numbered 3,384 in the second quarter of 2015 and those of the form of limited company 2,877.

 

Enterprise openings of the form of natural person accounted for 49,3 per cent and those of the form of limited company for 41.9 per cent of all enterprise openings.

 

There were 5,800 enterprise closures in the first quarter of 2015. Compared to the first quarter of the year before, enterprise closures decreased by 2.3 per cent, as in the first quarter of 2014 they numbered 5,939.

 

Enterprise closures accounted for 1.7 per cent of the total stock of enterprises in the first quarter of 2015.

 

Examined by industry, the number of closures was highest in trade, where they numbered 1,037, or 17.9 per cent of all enterprise closures in the first quarter of 2015. In construction, enterprise closures numbered 931 (16.1%) and in professional, scientific and technical activities 896 (15.4%).
