The Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA) on Thursday announced that it had granted Nokia Oyj the first test license for product development, research and testing of 5G network.

In a release, FICORA said the test license covers several frequency bands in Espoo and Oulu.

The 5G is expected to meet the requirements and needs of many different user groups of wireless communications with regard to, for instance, mobility, higher data speed, better reliability, security and energy efficiency, said the release.

FICORA said 5G acts as one of the spurs to digitalisation as 5G networks are used by many industrial and traffic-related systems and applications besides the traditional user groups of mobile networks.

According to FICORA, the continuous growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine to Machine (M2M) communication boosts the development of 5G.
