The steepest phase in the downturn of Finnish trade with Russia has already been experienced and over, reports the autumn barometer survey made by the Finnish-Russian Chamber of Commerce.

The exports and business of the majority of the companies surveyed have declined further, found the survey.

However, exports of 16 per cent of the companies surveyed in autumn increased, while in spring only 6 per cent posted growth.

Similarly, the business of 16 per cent of companies surveyed during autumn improved, while the corresponding figure during the spring survey was 11 per cent.

Companies have reacted to the difficult market situation in Russia and have adjusted their operations.

The Russia recession and economic sanctions have hit the trade sector which has declined by 40 per cent in the six-month review period.

Two-thirds of the surveyed companies in the country believe the Russian economy will continue to decline.
