Mikael Pentikäinen, editor-in-chief of the country’s largest-circulation newspaper, the Helsingin Sanomat, was fired on Monday.
The newspaper authorities said the decision to remove Pentikäinen was taken considering the lack of understanding between the chief editor and the management.
The authorities also appointed Riikka Venäläinen acting editor-in-chief until appointment of a fully-fledged editor-in-chief.
The outgoing editor-in-chief, however, said the Helsingin Sanomat has a very bright future only if the journalists were given to discharge duty in peace and freedom, very important preconditions for fair journalism.
