A road accident on the Ranua-Rovaniemi highway killed one person as two vehicles collided head-on.
A 34-year-old Russian woman passed away at Lapin Keskusairaala, the main hospital in Rovaniemi.
The woman's eight-year-old son also suffered serious but not life threatening injuries in the crash.
The victim, who was driving one of the cars involved in the accident, was airlifted by a helicopter from the scene of the accident to the hospital.
The driver of the other car, a 26-year-old Russian, suffered minor injuries as well as other passengers in the car including a 34-year-old woman and a nine-year-old boy.
The collision took place on a straight stretch of the road that was icy because of snowfall.
According to witnesses, the female driver lost control and the vehicle drifted to the incoming lane.
