Thu, 09 Jan, 2014 03:47:52 AM FTimes-STT Report, January 9 File Photo – Lehtikuva. Police rescued a woman a few hours after her abduction from the Porvoo city centre area between late Tuesday and early Wednesday nights.
Law enforcers also caught the alleged abductor red-handed while he was on his way to taking the victim to another place from the initial hideout, police said.
Sources said the miscreant in his 20s abducted the woman from the Näsi area near the Porvoo city centre at 7pm on Tuesday and took her to a place behind the S-market area.
The criminal snatched the victim’s bank card, withdrew some cash and left the scene leaving her tied there. He later came back to take the woman forcibly into his car.
The woman got a lucky break a few hours later when a team of patrol police stopped the car near the city centre of Porvoo and found the woman tied inside the car.
“Police had to use force as the man tried to resist,” said Mia Tuominen, detective in-charge of the investigation.
Prosecution is pressing charges of robbery, unlawful detention and assaulting officials.
The woman was undergoing treatment in a hospital but no allegation of sexual abuse had been pressed.
The motive of the abduction could not be known till Wednesday night as the woman was in hospital and could not be interrogated.
