A minister-level meeting between the Finnish transport minister and her Russian counterpart scheduled for Tuesday was cancelled at a time when Russia has announced closing TIR freight at Vaalima.

The two Ministers were due to sign agreements on railway border traffic and ice breaking.

Minister of Transport Merja Kyllönen said the cancellation had nothing to do with the imposition of freight restriction at Vaalima.

Finnish language online business daily Talouselämä-lehti reported that Kyllönen had cancelled the scheduled meeting with the Russian minister.

According to Kyllönen, her Russian counterpart could not make it to the meeting either.

Defence Minister Carl Haglund has also reportedly cancelled a meeting with his Russian counterpart.
