Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will participate as Finland's representative at the meeting of foreign ministers preparing for the EU-Africa Summit in Brussels on 1 April, said a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This will be the fourth summit held between the EU and Africa. The first summit was held in Cairo in 2000, the second one in Lisbon in 2007, and the previous one in Tripoli in 2010.

Finland will be represented by Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen in the EU-Africa Heads of State Summit on 2-3 April, beginning after the meeting of foreign ministers, according to the release.

The ministers will discuss in their meeting the development of cooperation related to peace and security between the EU and Africa over the past decade, as well as concrete cooperation measures the partners have already been taking within the Joint Africa-EU strategy.

While visiting Brussels, Tuomioja will also make an address at an international conference on prevention of genocides, said the release.
