A man in his 60s died in a fire in Mänttä-Vilppula in Pirkaanmaa region on Friday night. According to police, the house he was in was completely destroyed in the fire.
By the time the rescue services arrived at the scene, the roof of the house had completely collapsed.
Police said the victim used to live in the house alone. The one and a half storey detached housed was made of timber.
The cause of the fire could not be immediately known.
In a separate incident, a middle aged woman was killed in a fire in Nurmes in North Karelia early Saturday morning.
The fire spread to ten rows of houses located in Laamilantie. The rescues services received the alarm a little before 3am.
The alarm was set off by a neighbour who had sensed the smell of smoke. The rest of the residents in the neighbourhood escaped unharmed.
Police, who are investigating the incident, believes that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.
