The accident at a junction in Hankamäki on the Siilinjärvi-Nurmes road occurred when a private car collided head-on with a bus. All the four people who died in the accident were inside the car.
The bus was carrying 14 in addition to the driver. Two passengers in the bus were seriously injured, said North Savonia police.
The injured were taken to Kuopio University Hospital.
The sequence of events was still not clear at half past nine on Sunday evening. The road at the scene of accident was not icy but the weather condition was rainy and dark.
