The Finnish Air Force will participate in a NATO aerial exercise over the Baltic States next week.

Two FA-18 Hornet fighter jets will take part in the exercise which will be organised on April 21 and April 22.

The objective of the Baltic Region Training Event (BRTE) according to the Defence Forces is to improve the safety and surveillance in the Baltic region.

The exercise is organised by NATO and is hosted by Latvia. It will be carried out over the airspace of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania as well as over the international airspace.

The latest BRTE exercise will be the twentieth. It has been organsised regularly since 2008 with Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania taking turns to host the event.

In recent years, Finland has taken part in two or three exercises in a year. The Hornet fighters will take off from the Karelia Air Command.
