FTimes – STT Report, May 20

Police investigations have revealed an alleged relationship between the former Helsinki police drug unit chief Jari Aarnio and a prostitute.

The pre-trial session on the drug trial faced by Aarnio began in the District Court of Helsinki on Tuesday. In a written reply to the court, Aarnio denied all the allegations. Aarnio also denied the existence of the so-called “Pasila man” and said the numerous representatives of National Bureau of Investigation involved in his investigation have been a hindrance.

Meanwhile, thousands of pages of police investigation material made public on Tuesday revealed an alleged relationship between Aarnio and a prostitute who is in her 40s.

The woman said she met Aarnio in 1997 while she was in jail and during interrogation in Pasila. Since then the relationship became sexual which lasted until July 2011.

The woman revealed she met with Aarnio at least once a week.

According to police investigation, sperm which had Aarnio’s DNA was discovered from a leather chair in the woman’s living room.

During questioning, Aarnio had nothing to say on the prostitute’s alleged sexual allegations, revealed the document.

Aarnio admitted to have visited the woman’s apartment. However, according to him, the visit was a police operation.

According to the prostitute, she had later asked Aarnio for advice on what kind of commercial sex advertisement she should post and which services she should use. Aarnio is said to have replied her request with a text message recommending the website Iskuri.fi.

According to the woman, Aarnio also suggested how much she should charge for her services quoting the fee at 500 euros.

In his written reply to the court, Aarnio strongly criticised his conditions in the jail pointing out that he is completely isolated there for 23 hours a day.

The trial on the numerous drug offences Aarnio is suspected to have committed will officially begin in June. The trial will last until February next year.

On the other hand, the verdict in the Trevoc case is expected in the beginning of June.

Aarnio has been in pre-trial detention since November 2013 on suspicion of numerous crimes.
