The negotiations to form the next government went on for longer than expected on Tuesday at the Government Banquet Hall.

As expected the government programme will be unveiled at a press conference in the afternoon today.

There is still no information on the agreed allocation of the ministerial portfolios between the parties.

According to earlier reports, the government programme was expected to be finalised on Tuesday.

The chair of the Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) Timo Soini on Tuesday morning gave the hint that more than one party were interested in the same portfolios, and for this reason the negotiations had to continue.

“Yes, we know that the fillet is on the table, but still it has to be distributed," Soini said.

Juha Sipilä, the chair of the Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party) told the press on Tuesday morning that negotiations would extend until at least 9 pm. The talks were scheduled to continue slightly past 8 pm.

The government communication revealed at 4:30 pm that the party leaders involved in the talks were not going to comment anymore following Tuesday's negotiation.
