The victim was a 35-year-old man from Helsinki.
The jumper who died had performed more than 1,500 jumps, according to the Aeronautical Association Parachuting Commission.
The president of Utti’s Skydive Finland, Ville Kajala said the accident took place when two jumpers collided in the dark.
“The skydiver collided with the parachute of another diver near the ground, and his parachute collapsed,” said Kajala.
The police estimated that the collision took place at an altitude of about 20 meters only, after which the jumper fell uncontrollably to the ground. He died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
The other party to the collision survived the incident, according to Kajala, with no physical injuries. No one else in the group of 14 jumpers was harmed.
