Sat, 18 Jul, 2015 12:10:02 AM FTimes - STT Report, July 18 Asylum seekers indentation center in Helsinki. File Photo – Str / Lehtikuva. The number of Albanians seeking asylum in Finland has increased significantly in the last couple of months, the Immigration Service sources said.
Every applicant has received a negative decision until the Immigration Service has been able to calmly define the overall security situation within Albania.
The immigration service reports that 150 Albanians have applied for asylum during the current month, while the number was only 25 in May.
The Immigration Service has also received information about similar cases elsewhere in Europe.
According to authorities, it seems that tour operators have promoted Finland in such a way, that the asylum seekers believed that they would still receive funding for their return journey even if their residence permit was not granted.
Declined asylum applicants may indeed apply for support of return fares, however, this can be reduced or refused altogether, if the agency suspects any wrong doing.
