A group of 50 Eritrean refugees arrived at the Kemi-Tornio Airport in the afternoon, immigration sources said.

From the airport, the refugees were taken to the Tornio facility center, where their journey will lead them to reception centers.

Finland has committed itself to accept a total of about 3,200 refugees as a part of intra-Europe transfer over next two years.

At the initial stage the country will take more than 100 refugees from Italy and 50 from Greece within the next two months.

The Immigration Service has decided to receive 2,078 refugees first and the decision about the remaining thousand will be taken later.

Those refugees transferred internally within the EU do not automatically receive asylum or a residence permit; their applications are treated like other applications.

The Interior Ministry has estimated that there will be a total of 30,000 to 35,000 refugees in Finland by the end of the year.
