FTimes - STT Report, Nov 28

An asylum seeker is suspected of raping a 14-year-old girl in Raisio on Tuesday. The police arrested the suspect, a 19-year-old man, on the following day of the incident.

The man, reportedly an asylum seeker, has been in Finland for about a year.

The Southwest-Finland District Court took the man into custody for suspicion of felony, child sexual abuse and rape. The rape happened in a private residence.

This is the second week in a row where the victim of a suspected rape has been a young girl.

Police suspect that another 14-year-old girl was raped late Monday night in Kempele.

The suspect, a 17-year-old man, has been taken into custody, charged with aggravated rape and aggravated sexual child abuse. Police have revealed that the suspect has a foreign background.

However, they have not confirmed media claims that he is an asylum seeker.

Police have been notified of ten rapes this year involving an asylum seeker, an official of the Police Board told STT.
In recent years, the police investigate on an average about a thousand rape cases every year.

The National Police Board has changed their systems at the beginning of this month so that a suspect's background as an asylum seeker is connected to any criminal complaints.

An interim report, which will detail crime in relation to refugees and asylum seekers, is expected towards the end of January.
