A middle-aged woman was killed on Wednesday in Nurmijärvi when a car ran into her and another pedestrian. She was 45.
 
The accident occurred in Lepsämä on Onnelanmäentie in the morning. 
 
According to the police, a local woman was driving toward Klaukkala. She lost control of the car at a pedestrian crossing and the car collided with two pedestrians crossing the street. 
 
A woman, born 1970, died instantly in the accident while the other pedestrian sustained critical injuries.
 
According to the police, the road at the time of the accident was slippery. The police and the traffic accident investigation commission are investigating the crash. 
 
The police are investigating the matter tentatively as reckless driving, manslaughter and causing personal injuries.
 
Meanwhile, in another incident on Wednesday, one person is reported to have drowned while skiing in Espoo. The accident took place at Bodominjärvi before 2.00 pm.
 
The ice covering had deceived the skier resulting in the drowning.
 
The rescue department retrieved the person from the depth of the ice layer; however, the resuscitation efforts proved futile.
 
The rescue department has reiterated its earlier warnings that the state of the ice is still weak.
