A record number of women applied to join the voluntary military service last year.
 
A total of 842 women applied to join the service in 2015, while in the in 2014 the figure was under 800.
 
A total of 156 women applied to be enlisted at the Pori Brigade making it the most popular for women applicants.
 
The Kainuu and Armoured brigades also attracted more applicants than in the past; however, the popularity of Karjala brigade among women applicants slightly fell compared to last year.
 
In terms of regions, most applicants came from Uusimaa and Southwest Finland.
 
The conscript selection process will be conducted at regional offices in April. The women who applied for enlistment are expected to join the military service mainly in next year, but others may be called up as early July this year.
 
About 7,000 women have so far been trained since the inception of voluntary military training. 
 
About two-thirds of the women who were enlisted have been trained in leadership positions.
