“This case requires quite a bit of familiarisation with freedom of speech, freedom of expression and those types of things,” said detective chief inspector Timo Luoto.
In January, a number of political youth organisations sent a request for an investigation into the operations of MV-lehti to the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to the organisations, MV-lehti allows racist intimidation, abuses freedom of expression and violates civil peace. The investigation request claims that the magazine’s activities have been shielded by operating abroad.
Meanwhile, the chief editors of major Finnish media houses on Tuesday prepared a joint statement in which they held responsible and pluralistic journalism against a new type of “fake” media.
The statement was signed by 21 editors. They are particularly concerned about systematic lying and slandering on social media.
