Commercial broadcaster MTV in its report said that he would be stepping down during next summer's party congress.
“I did not comment about this in any way. I actually announced in the autumn that I will apply for an extended period, and if there's anything else to report, then I will choose the time and place to announce my resignation. Right now, what I said in the autumn still applies,” Laaninen told news agency STT.
Laaninen's further intentions will likely become known in the coming weeks, before the start of the Keskusta spring district convention round.
Laaninen, 61, has been the party secretary of Keskusta for the last six years.
