One of the drivers involved in ill-fated collision of two cars in Lapland which claimed three lives on Saturday is suspected to have been driving under the influence of alcohol, said the Lapland police department on Sunday.
Two cars collided on national road 4 north of Ivalo. The police suspect that the driver of one of the cars lost control and crashed into the other.
Besides drunken driving, the driver is also suspected of manslaughter.
Three of the four people riding in the car were injured, while the driver is in intensive care unit.
The car was carrying foreign students estimated to be in their twenties who are studying in the country, said the police.
Two victims of the accident were men and one was a woman.
The weather condition at the time of the accident was described by the police as normal winter weather.
