Many people in the country received mobile phone messages telling them they were lottery win-ners, said the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority (FICORA).

The message purported that the receiver had bagged two million euros in winnings and asked the recipient to provide contact details to the sender via email.

According to the FICORA, the message is a scam, the aim of which is to fool the message recip-ients into paying for shipping of the imaginary winnings.

The FICORA said that recipients should not respond to the message in any way, but rather they should be deleted immediately.

The messages have come from phone numbers listed in Croatia and Slovenia with +385 and +386 country codes.
