The Southwest Finland District Court on Monday sentenced five persons to imprisonment in different terms for trafficking about 150 people into the country.

The persons were convicted for aggravated illegal immigrant trafficking. The men denied all the charges brought against them.

The court considered the crimes as a planned action. Bringing people into Finland was, according to the court, part of organised criminal activities.

A large section of victims are from Iraq. They were brought to Finland from June to August 2015.

The route ran mostly by sea from Turkey to Greece and continued through Austria to the north.

The District Court sentenced the head of the group Ismail Abedin to five years imprisonment.

Two convicts Mostafa Afes and Khudhair Marwan received three-year sentences while two other men received conditional imprisonment.
