The decline in the popularity of the Prime Minister Juha Sipilä led three-party alliance govern-ment has stalled, according to poll by a Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.

The newspaper has examined the popularity of the government every six months. Last summer, nearly 40 percent of respondents felt that the government worked well or fairly well. By Decem-ber, that number had dropped to 24 percent.

The popularity now seems to be at a standstill. In last month's poll, the government's popularity had risen by one percentage point to 25.

“The number of those who hold the government's management as good is not any higher than it was half a year ago, but the number of those criticising it is slightly lower,” said Sakari Nurmela of TNS Gallup, the organisation which conducted the poll.

About 39 percent of respondents felt that Prime Minister Sipilä has succeeded in his task. Sipilä's popularity rose a few percentage points from the last poll.

About 1000 Finns responded to the Gallup poll in mid-June.
