A man was killed and the body was dumped in a Helsinki park on Sunday.

The police recovered the body bearing several marks of injuries from the park near the Puotila chapel at about 4.00pm.

The police are treating the incident as a criminal act as there were signs of violence on the victim’s body.

The law enforcement agency detained a young man from the vicinity, who is suspected of involvement in the crime.

The police did not give any motive or information about the incident, the victim or the perpetrator as the preliminary investigation was still underway.

Meanwhile, a man shot at a group of people with an air pistol in Kallio, Helsinki late Saturday night.

Detective Chief Inspector Mikko Halme told the news agency STT that a group of intoxicated people in the street were making noise.

A resident of a nearby apartment complained of the noise, and the incident devolved into a shouting match. At a certain stage, the man returned to his apartment and began shooting the air pistol from his window. One man on the street was hit in the hand but did not suffer any serious injury.

According to the police, the man fired approximately two shots. The incident took place at about 10.00pm.

The police detained the shooter and are investigating the case as suspected assault and causing danger. The incident was first reported by the Finnish language newspaper Ilta-Sanomat.
