The visiting Swedish Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson on Friday said that Sweden wants to strengthen cooperation with Finland as Europe prepares for the exit of Britain from the Euro-pean Union.

Andersson arrived in Helsinki on Friday to attend the Nordic Council of Ministers meeting at the House of Estates.

Andersson said that Finland is an important partner to Sweden because it is in the European Un-ion as in the Eurozone.

The Nordic countries, according to Andersson, have common objectives as the EU begins to ne-gotiate a new relationship with Britain after Brexit.

Sweden’s Finance Minister also stressed the need to maintain close trade relations.

“We need to work together with the EU, but the most important are the small countries,” Andersson said during the Nordic Council of Ministers meeting at the House of Estates.

Finland’s Finance Minister Petteri Orpo said that the Nordic countries have found a common ground in respect to Brexit and are cooperating closely throughout the exit process.

Orpo said that the countries have to find a mode of operation in order to prevent the economy from suffering.

The ministers were reluctant to reveal what in practice is the common position of the Nordic countries. They, however, assured that the Nordic countries are together with EU in respect to the Brexit negotiations.
