Sat, 29 Oct, 2016 12:00:07 AM FTimes - STT Report, Oct 29 District Court of Helsinki. File Photo Lehtikuva. The District Court of Helsinki on Friday sentenced a 28-year-old man to three years and eight months in prison for rape.
The convict strangled the woman until she fell unconscious and then raped her. The offence hap-pened in Helsinki back in July.
The prosecutor demanded aggravated rape penalty, but the court deemed the act was close to aggravated rape.
An inquiry that the victim would have suffered for instance, a life threatening situation was not presented in the court.
According to the court, the strangling itself taking into account the court procedures was not considered particularly raw or cruel.
District prosecutor Nina Keskinen told news agency STT that the defence is likely to lodge an appeal.
Finnish language evening tabloid Iltalehti reported that the man was working as a canoeing teacher in the Helsinki metropolitan area.
