Interior Minister Paula Risikko has assured that all police officers will be retained next year, reported the Finnish language daily Savon Sanomat.
Risikko had earlier said the number of police officers would be maintained at 7,200, even though at the beginning of the year an interior security report considered the limit of police officers at 7,000 men.

The need for additional appropriation for the police officers is about 15 million euros.

According to Risikko, the appropriation is going to the police through next year’s funding when the supplementary budget will be placed in October-November.

This means, among other things, the police officers on fixed-term employment and those who are unemployed will be hired to the police force next year.

The interior minister said currently there are only a few unemployed police officers and a dozen on fixed term appointments.

According to Risikko, the interior ministry is in favour of maintaining the number of police officers at around 7,200.
