A border guard officer died in a snowmobile accident over weak ice in Kuusamo, in Northern Ostrobothnia on Wednesday.
According to the Kainuu border guard, the accident occurred in the morning when the two-men patrol was working in the vicinity of the border. The men were traveling by snowmobiles.
They were crossing a pond when one of the snowmobiles went through the ice.
The rescue operation involved several government departments, but the man was found dead on the scene.
The Oulu police are investigating the accident.
