The extent of concrete problem found at the Turku University Hospital’s new expanded unit is so severe and wide spread that the building structures will need to be taken down and rebuilt.

According to the healthcare region of Southwest Finland, finishing the new hospital building will take 8 to 10 months longer than planned.

There are altogether 3,000 cubic meters of faulty concrete. The cause for problems in the concrete has not yet been specified.

Main contractor Lemminkäinen Infra Oy and concrete supplier Rudus Oy will continue further investigation into the matter.
