A number of Russian opposition representatives met in Helsinki this weekend, reported the national broadcaster Yle on Sunday.

Former oligarch and current pro-democracy activist Mikhail Khodorkovsky attended the meeting organised by Open Russia where a total of 75 influential opposition leaders participated.

For the last few years, Khodorkovsky has lived in exile, and the meeting was held in Helsinki for practical reasons.

“This was a pragmatic choice. I’m the founder of the movement and therefore it would have been strange if I had not participated in the conference. However, it’s impossible for me to visit Russia,” Khodorkovsky told Yle.

Khodorkovsky believes that substantial changes will occur in Russia in 2018 to 2024.

“The main message is that we are creating a project that combines the supporters of different political parties. We want the power in our country to change hands,” he said.
