Its total consumption as fuel in the generation of electricity and heat amounted to 3.4 million tonnes, corresponding to around 85 petajoules in energy content, said a press release on Monday.
Use of hard coal increased in plants of separate production of electricity, where approximately one million tonnes of hard coal was consumed, which was over four times more than a year earlier in 2012, the data shows.
The data for years 2012 and 2013 are preliminary.
In January to September this year, consumption of hard coal was equal to the average for the decade of 2000.
At the end of August 2013, 3.2 million tonnes of hard coal was in stock, 26% less than a year earlier, said the release.
