EU Financial Programming and Budget Commissioner Jacek Dominik in a statement repeated calls on Britain to pay an estimated 2.1 billion euros (2.67 billion U.S. dollars) by the year end.
The increased contribution comes due to its better economic performance as measured by agreed statistical rules, the statement added.
According to Dominik, if Britain does not pay the added amount, all other 27 member states will be penalized because they will not get reimbursed for contributions they paid in excess.
Dominik emphasized that "this is not money for Brussels."
"This is money, for example, for Greece, Portugal and Ireland, and other countries, some of which have significant fiscal challenges," Dominik said.
British Prime Minister David Cameron has called for an emergency EU finance ministers meeting to discuss the issue with the European Commission on Nov. 7.
