Random noise, however, may still occur to which the company recommends hanging up and restarting the call.
The mobile traffic disturbance began on Friday night, especially affecting communications in the metropolitan areas.
In addition, all Sonera’s landlines across the country went down. The disruption also affected Sonera's website and its customer service numbers.
Sonera is unable to accurately estimate how many customers were affected, because many of the base stations in the capital were down.
“The number of those affected was definitely in the tens of thousands but less than 100,000,” spokesperson of the company Mira Kettunen said in a message.
The problems began at night due to a power failure and reportedly affected emergency calls also.
“Even if Sonera has a problem with connecting calls, emergency calls should still go through. Here in Finland, if an emergency call cannot connect to Sonera's network, then the call will transfer to the DNA or Elisa networks,” said the company's communications and public relations director Tatu Tuominen.
